Greensboro City Councilman Zack Matheny Announces Run for Congress
GREENSBORO, N.C., Dec. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Vowing to fight politics-as-usual, Greensboro City Councilman Zack Matheny announced today he will run for North Carolina's 6th Congressional District.
"It is with great excitement that my family and I announce my intentions to seek the 6th Congressional District office of North Carolina. This district has been blessed to be represented for many years by the honorable Howard Coble, and my family and I are ready to follow the tradition of accessibility and common sense that is the reputation of the most respected Congressman in the United States," Matheny said.
In his four terms as city councilman for the North Carolina's third largest city, Matheny is well known as a compassionate and sensible conservative leader able to cut through bureaucracy and unite disparate groups. During his time on Greensboro's city council Matheny has successfully fought to lower taxes and create a more aggressive economic development plan.
Matheny announced his congressional campaign amongst a crowd of supporters and media at Koury Aviation, a charter jet company at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC. He chose the site because both the company and its President, Brad Koury, represent the type of innovative job creators who need Washington to start working for them, not against them.
"It's time to put North Carolinians back to work. The unemployment rate in the sixth district is higher than the national average, and that is unacceptable. With our diverse culture and workforce, we must focus on bringing more jobs to this district. Companies like Remington, Timco, HondaJet, Glen Raven, LabCorp and the VF Corporation are proud to call North Carolina's 6th District home and it's time for more companies to follow suit," Matheny told the crowd.
