Griswold Cares Foundation awards $50,000 in Grant Funds to Nonprofits The Griswold Cares Foundation awards a total of $50,000 to 34 Nonprofit Organizations in 21 different states across the nation.
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa., Dec. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Griswold Cares Foundation, a private charity established in 2010, was created by Griswold Home Care to further the company's belief that care for the elderly and disabled should be available to all and not just the privileged few. The Griswold Cares Foundation's vision is a future in which all seniors, including those with limited financial means, will have the opportunity to age with dignity in the comfort their own homes. In order to carry out this vision, and to give back to the communities they serve, the Foundation provides grants for select community programs that help people age in place who otherwise could not afford to do so. Donations to the foundation by Griswold Home Care franchisees, friends, and family exceeded expectations and allowed the Foundation to award $50,000 worth of grants to 34 nonprofit organizations across the nation.
The Griswold Cares Foundation received 89 proposals from nonprofits that were in need of funding to support their mission. Due to the overwhelming response, the Foundation voted to double the initial funding allocation from $25,000 to $50,000 and was able to award grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to 34 mission driven nonprofit organizations in 21 states. "We are extremely honored to have received so many proposals from nonprofit organizations during our first funding cycle" said Graham Weihmiller, Chairman of the Board. "We appreciate the opportunity to learn more about these organizations and to help support the great work they are doing in their communities. We look forward to increasing our impact in the months and years ahead".
The proposals were carefully reviewed by the Foundation's Grants Committee, comprised of 8 Board Members, to determine which programs best aligned with their mission and funding priorities. Many factors were considered, and the main focus was to choose the organizations where the awarded dollars would make the most impact in the community. Types of programs funded include respite care programs, transportation services, food delivery services, emergency short-term assistance programs, and volunteer programs that support individuals that wish to remain independent in their homes. The two organizations that received the highest grants were the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society - Maryland Chapter, and the Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services in Lawrenceville, GA. For a full list of the organizations awarded, visit here.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maryland Chapter, has a Respite Care Program that provides financial assistance to approximately one full day of respite care for seven care partners. The $5,000 awarded will allow the Chapter to expand the program to a full day of respite care for 28 care partners, or additional days as needed on a case by case basis.
The Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services (FRIENDS) remain dedicated to helping transportation-challenged residents get to their medical appointments, therapies, or treatments. The grant award of $4,800 will allow FRIENDS to offer partial scholarship support that enables residents to sustain their prescribed treatment levels, thereby giving them a better chance to age in place. Additionally, it allows them to leverage the program's capability by offering $25 monthly gas reimbursement stipends to four volunteer drivers who will be able to serve dialysis patients currently on waiting lists and unable to otherwise pay for their own transportation.
