On Wednesday, Feb. 22, the Smithsonian will break ground for the National Museum of African American History and Culture. It will be the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, art, history and culture. It is expected to open in 2015.
The event will take place in a heated tent and seating will be limited. The event is by invitation only and not open to the public; the entire ceremony will be webcast.
Media credentials are required. Members of the media who want to receive a credential must RSVP by Friday, Feb. 17, to either Becky Haberacker (haberackerb@si.edu; (202) 633-5183) or Abigail Benson (bensona@si.edu; (202) 633-9495). Freelance journalists must submit proof of assignments from their editors before receiving a credential.
