GrubHub Secures $1.1 Million in Series A Funding From Top Venture Firms
Online delivery website captures eye of key investors
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- GrubHub
(http://www.grubhub.com), the leading online food delivery site, today
announced that it has secured $1.1 million in Series A Funding. Led by
Origin Ventures, the round also includes support from well-established
Silicon Valley investors including Bob Zipp of Amicus Capital.
Established in Chicago in 2005 and recently launched in San Francisco,
GrubHub allows individuals to use the Internet to conduct local searches
and place orders, online or by phone, for restaurant food delivery. The
free service also provides the ability to view menus as well as rate and
review local neighborhood restaurant favorites.
"GrubHub is quickly changing the restaurant delivery business,
leveraging the Web to make it easier for people to place food delivery
requests online," said Bob Zipp of Amicus Capital. "Given GrubHub's
established success in Chicago and its rapid adoption in San Francisco, we
are confident that the Company will soon be THE go to resource for anyone
who wants food delivered. We are excited to be some of the first investors
to contribute to GrubHub's future success."
GrubHub is designed so that city residents who are too tired, busy or
unable to cook can search for restaurants that will deliver by simply
inputting their address. The site appeals to people from all walks of life
ranging from the overworked businessperson, to the busy on-the-go mom, to
party revelers looking for a late night snack. With the additional funding,
GrubHub plans to increase visibility to all of these groups in their
current markets of San Francisco and Chicago. GrubHub will also use the
capital to expand to up to 4 urban markets in 2008.
"Shortly after launching GrubHub the team witnessed the overwhelming
customer demand for an online food ordering and delivery outlet," stated
Matt Maloney, CEO of GrubHub. "We are excited to have such a prestigious
group recognize the value of GrubHub and invest in the Company's future as
we expand into additional urban markets. We are delighted to have this
group of investors join the team."
