GrubHub.com Expands Into New York City Metro Area
With more consumers forgoing an evening out in exchange for an upscale meal delivered to their door step, GrubHub.com is helping connect diners to over 5,000 top rated delivery restaurants in the New York City metro area
CHICAGO, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- GrubHub.com (http://www.grubhub.com), the only service that shows all the restaurants that deliver and allows users to order directly online or by phone, announced today their expansion into Jersey City and Hoboken, NJ, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens, NY. GrubHub.com first launched its services in Manhattan in July 2008. The service is free and gives customers access to over 10,000 menus and enables over 2,000 restaurants to provide online ordering.
With the economy slowly recovering, cost-conscious consumers continue to cut back on their daily expenses. According to Chicago-based research consultancy Technomic, nationally, fine dining restaurants could see their sales fall 15 percent this year, with a 2.5 percent drop in the broader restaurant industry.
But cutting costs doesn't mean diners have to sacrifice a nice meal. There are over 5,000 delivery restaurants in NYC, and GrubHub.com connects hungry patrons to all their delivery options. Users won't just find the typical burger and pizza eateries on the site. Diners can order more upscale entrees for delivery like a roasted rack of lamb or BBQ wild swordfish from the Brasserie Julien on the Upper East Side.
"The recession has thus far done little to hamper our momentum," said Matt Maloney, founder and CEO of Grubhub.com. "With an increasing number of cost-conscious consumers opting to stay at home and order food delivery rather than eat out, we recognize this was an opportune time to expand our business in select areas of New Jersey and New York City."
GrubHub.com processed $20 million in delivery orders last year and in the first half of this year the service has seen a 60 percent increase in food orders in their existing markets compared to last year.
"We're probably going to triple our orders this year," Maloney said. "It's an incredible growth trajectory in the midst of a real economic recession. We also recognize this is a challenging environment for restaurant operators and we know our services will drive more business to them."
During the first month of the New York City and New Jersey expansion, all first-time GrubHub.com users can get $10 off their first online order if they go to: http://www.grubhub.com/nycmetrosneakpeek/. GrubHub.com is making delivery better by connecting users to more restaurant options and helping them discover hidden neighborhood gems.
