HAP Announces Largest Expansion in Its History With Securing of Statewide Provider Networks for PPO Products

New Contracts Bring Innovative Health Care and Coverage Options to

Customers Statewide

    DETROIT, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The addition of 29 new
 hospitals and more than 2,500 new physicians to a growing statewide
 provider network has created the largest expansion ever of Health Alliance
 Plan (HAP) and its subsidiaries, Alliance Health and Life Insurance Company
 and HAP Preferred Inc. The announcement was made by HAP President and CEO,
 Francine Parker.
     The expansion not only brings HAP's PPO products to customers
 statewide, but enables companies with multiple locations to provide access
 to high-quality health care with an array of innovative health plans,
 including HAP's PPO products, the fast-growing SOLO Individual Plans,
 Alliance Medicare Rx Prescription Drug Plans (stand-alone PDP) and Alliance
 Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap plans).

     With the new contracts, HAP has significantly expanded its presence in
 West Michigan, Mid-Michigan, Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula,
 enhancing HAP's leadership position in the state.
     HAP's expanded network includes the state's leading hospitals, health
 systems and physician groups. Hospitals and health systems added to HAP's
 provider network include:
     Trinity Health: HAP added three new hospital contracts with Battle
 Creek Health System, Battle Creek; Mercy General Health Partners, Muskegon;
 and Saint Mary's Health Care, Grand Rapids for HAP's PPO products. The
 three new contracts bring the total number of Trinity Hospitals in HAP's
 network to nine.
     MidMichigan Health: HAP secured four hospital contracts for HAP's PPO
 customers with MidMichigan Health, a partnership of health providers,
 services and facilities in the heart of Michigan. The four hospitals are
 MidMichigan Medical Center - Clare; MidMichigan Medical Center - Gladwin;
 MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland and Gratiot Medical Center, Alma.
     Regional Delivery Network of West Michigan: HAP has secured contracts
 for PPO customers with the Regional Delivery Network of West Michigan, a
 group of physician hospital organizations with approximately 500
 physicians. HAP also secured contracts with Mercy General Health Partners -
 Mercy Campus, Muskegon; Metro Health Hospital, Grand Rapids; Carson City
 Hospital, Carson City; and Sheridan Hospital, Sheridan.
     Upper Peninsula Health Plan: HAP reached an agreement with Upper
 Peninsula Health Plan that enables PPO members to access 14 hospitals and
 800 physicians in the Upper Peninsula.
     Northern Michigan Hospitals: HAP's subsidiaries have contracted with
 Northern Michigan Hospital, Petoskey, Cheboygan Memorial Hospital,
 Cheboygan and Charlevoix Area Hospital for HAP's PPO products.
     Saginaw and Flint: Covenant Hospital in Saginaw is now available for
 HAP's PPO customers. Covenant joins HAP's existing hospital relationships
 with Genesys Regional Medical Center, Grand Blanc; McLaren Regional Medical
 Center, Flint; Hurley Medical Center, Flint and St. Mary's of Michigan,
