HARBIN, China, Oct. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Harbin, China's northernmost provincial capital city best known for its snow and ice sculptures in winter, met international audience with a debut of its enormous wet lands, romantic Central Street parades and colorful music in a promotion video in Times Square, New York City.
Harbin, most famously for its winter feast, has been actively advertising its various attractions in summer, trying to bring travelers to its natural and historical beauties. The city, enjoying such nicknames as Oriental Paris or Oriental Moscow, boasts one of China's largest wet lands full of animals and plants, as well as buildings and legacies of unique Western and Oriental features.
Following Beijing, Shanghai and others, Harbin with its 15-second video, was among a series of major Chinese cities to make a splash at the crossroads of the world.
The Times Square, at the conjunction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue, has consistently been seen as one of the world's most visited tourist attractions. Harbin's video was displayed on oversize screens known as the China Screen at the square, with estimates put viewing at 100 million person-times. A previous survey of tourists showed 90 percent of them expressed interests after seeing videos on the screen.
The municipal government and residents of Harbin have applauded the display of their hometown in the Times Square, generally believing it would be significantly conducive to raising its profile and boosting tourism.
