Hard Times? Look to Your Library ... Especially Now

ISSAQUAH, Wash., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- In the past year, Washington State lost nearly 100,000 jobs. The unemployment rate in King County has reached eight percent, and statewide, the rate is now 9.2 percent.

Across King County people are feeling the economic pinch: Layoffs, reduced hours, decreased benefits and mounting bills. To help people cope and get back on their feet, the King County Library System is hosting how-to demonstrations of the latest job-search and financial tools.

'Look to Your Library' Special Resource Demonstrations

Friday, May 1- Friday, May 8, 2009

Throughout the first week of May, 41 KCLS libraries will open one hour early, offering more than 300 extra hours of service for all King County residents to explore resources available without charge at their community libraries. During the first two hours every day that week, librarians will show how to find and use the library's information resources to help cope with today's tough economy, in four general categories:

-- Just laid off? Find resources for job searching and financial
       assistance.
-- Searching for a job? Explore the latest information sources and tools.
-- Struggling small business? Find information, strategies and resources.
-- Bills piling up? Get information about options and assistance.

All 'Look to Your Library' events are free and open to the public. In addition to the special demonstration sessions in the libraries, KCLS is creating a special Web section highlighting library resources for cutting costs, finding simple pleasures, learning new skills, and helping others. Full details will be available April 16 on http://www.kcls.org.
