Hats Are Back for 120-Year-Old Hat Company

Legendary Hat Maker Goorin Brothers, established 1895, opens two new stores in San Francisco.

SAN FRANCISCO, May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Goorin Brothers, bold hat makers for four generations, expands its retail presence as hat sales boom. Two new locations opened this month giving this San Francisco based company three hat stores in one city. Goorin Brothers has been headquartered in San Francisco since 1949 selling wholesale and opened its first retail store in North Beach in 2007.

Goorin Brothers is moving into the famous Morrow's Nut House location, Union Square, which recently closed after 70 years. Jackie Helbert, who worked at the Nut House for 37 years, will be passing on the keys to Goorin Brothers President, Ben Goorin, at a ceremony to be held on May 29th at 3:00pm at 111 Geary Street. This historic outpost in the heart of the theatre district will now feature Goorin Brothers personal and old-fashioned signature hat shop service.

The second new location is less than one block from the historic intersection of Haight-Ashbury, at 1446 Haight St. This shop is a vibrant showcase for the latest hat collections which feature the work of San Francisco's local artists and designers. On the 40th Anniversary of the "Summer of Love" the Haight Street location opened its doors on May 1 and experienced instant success. The authentic old-world feel of the shop includes antiques from the late 1890's and features a historic account of the family business that has survived for over 120 years. "Despite these tough economic times, I am excited to open the Hat Shops and bring back a tradition that started with my great-grandfather. Demand for fedoras, flat cap ivys and other classic-inspired hats continues to be strong. It is rewarding to see San Francisco's positive response to the new hat shops," says Ben Goorin, fourth generation hatter.
