NASHVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Nashville Salutes: A Tribute to Our Nation's Most Honored Heroes announces the addition of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) as a "$100K Medal of Honor Sponsor". Funds raised support the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation's (CMOHF) Medal of Honor Character Development Program (CDP) education. The CDP is a set of curriculum aimed at middle and high school students teaching character traits while practicing academic skills like writing, critical thinking and analysis of complex text.
Nashville Salutes is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Nashville and Middle Tennessee to celebrate and honor the nation's living Medal of Honor recipients for the values and character they exemplify while supporting their CDP program. Nashville Salutes will host 27 of the nation's living Medal of Honor recipients as they arrive in Nashville for events scheduled August 6-8, 2015. Both the Governor and Nashville Mayor have declared the week of August 3-9 as Service and Sacrifice week.
HCA is one of the nation's leading providers of healthcare services and operates 168 hospitals and 113 surgery centers in 20 states and the United Kingdom. Last year, employees and caregivers at HCA-affiliated hospitals were responsible for more than 20 million patient encounters. Eighty-five percent of HCA's hospitals reporting core measure performance data to The Joint Commission for 2013 are on TJC's current list of Top Performers on Key Quality Measures®, as compared to 36.9 percent of all TJC-accredited hospitals reporting 2013 data. HCA works closely with a number of organizations that support veterans, including the Fisher House Foundation, the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Hiring Our Heroes initiative and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. In addition, HCA participates in approximately 30 veteran job fairs each year and has hired more than 4,000 in the last two years in various positions including nursing and other clinical areas, logistics, accounting/finance, information technology and telecommunications.
