HemoCue Introduces the Next Generation Point-of-Care Blood Glucose Test System at EASD in Copenhagen
ANGELHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- HemoCue today introduces a
new system for point-of-care testing of blood glucose with lab quality
accuracy, at the Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study
of Diabetes (EASD) in Copenhagen. The new HemoCue Glucose 201 RT has a
wider measuring range than current HemoCue glucose systems and uses
microcuvettes that are room temperature stable. This system has just
received FDA 510(k) clearance for the US, and allows blood glucose to be
measured with high precision and accuracy anywhere, anytime.
The HemoCue Glucose 201 RT is a further advance in blood glucose
systems by HemoCue, the manufacturer of the only dedicated point-of-care
glucose systems that are FDA cleared in the US for diagnosis, screening and
monitoring of diabetes mellitus. The new system has a significantly wider
measuring range compared to the current generation. An additional
improvement is that the microcuvettes can be stored at room temperature.
Dr. Nichols, Associate Professor of Pathology at Tufts University
School of Medicine and an active member of the American Association for
Clinical Chemistry says: "Blood glucose devices have become smaller, faster
and require less blood. However, there is still a great need for
point-of-care glucose systems with higher precision and accuracy.
Calibration bias coupled with lot-to-lot variations may in some instances
lead to errors in measurement and subsequent diagnosis or treatment."
In a study that was presented at the AACC meeting in Chicago in July by
Dr. Ulf Hannestad, University of Linkoping, Sweden, the HemoCue Glucose 201
RT was compared to a mass spectrometry reference method for measuring
glucose. The study confirmed the system's excellent precision and accuracy,
features that enable HemoCue Glucose 201 RT to be used not only for
accurate monitoring of diabetes mellitus but also for screening and
diagnosis at the point-of-care.
"Advances in instrument technology and microcuvette chemistry were
combined to bring high accuracy and precision over a wider range and room
temperature handling convenience for the user in the HemoCue Glucose 201
RT," says Stellan Lindberg, Director of R&D at HemoCue. "It is now a lot
easier for the user to accurately monitor glucose levels in any
environment. We expect that these improvements will bring many benefits to
our customers."
The HemoCue Glucose 201 RT is displayed for the first time at the EASD
congress in Copenhagen, September 14-17. The system will be launched in the
Nordic countries in September, with further introductions planned directly
thereafter in Europe, the US, and the rest of the world.
