been selected to travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for a chance to qualify to win
$1,000,000 in Hershey's Million Dollar Kick Sweepstakes. Participants in the
kick-off, scheduled for 9 a.m. on January 21, 2002, in Jacksonville, include:
Brien Ross, 22, a computer technician from Hobart, N.Y.;
Tom Ehlers, 65, a retiree from Cody, Wyo.;
Tara Hodges, 29, a marketing/advertising assistant from Wilmington, Del.;
Charles J. Berzansky, Jr., 35, a pharmaceutical salesman from
William Allen, 43, a rancher from Dalhart, Texas; and,
Randy Rial, 41, a manufacturing manager from Battle Creek, Mich.
The winner of the kick-off in Jacksonville qualifies for the Grand Prize
-- the opportunity to win $1,000,000 by successfully kicking a field goal on
Super Bowl Sunday, February 3, 2002. The attempt will be televised "live" on
FOX between 2:45 and 2:55 p.m. EST, as part of the Super Bowl pre-game
activities from the NFL Experience in New Orleans. The kick-off winner and a
guest will receive a trip to New Orleans, for the Hershey's Million Dollar
Kick attempt, plus tickets to the Super Bowl game.
The six kickers will travel to Jacksonville where they will earn points by
kicking field goals from the 5, 15 and 25-yard lines at Episcopal High School
football field. Jacksonville Jaguars' kicker Mike Hollis will be on hand to
coach the kickers. "I'm really excited to be involved with Hershey's Million
Dollar Kick," said Hollis. "I look forward to helping each participant
increase their chance of winning."
The contestant accumulating the most points in the Jacksonville kickoff
will be flown to New Orleans, where they will have the chance to kick for
$1,000,000 on Sunday, February 3, 2002, as part of the NFL's Super Bowl pre-
game activities. The five other finalists each will receive a consolation
prize of $500, in addition to the trip to Jacksonville.
In New Orleans, Jacksonville Jaguars' kicker Mike Hollis will play a role
in determining whether the Hershey's Million Dollar Kick field goal attempt
will be from 25, 30, 35 or 40-yards. Hollis will make field goal attempts of
50, 55 and 60-yards. For each successful field goal attempt by Hollis, the
Hershey's Million Dollar Kick contestant moves five yards closer to the goal
post starting 40-yards out. Hollis will make the three field goal attempts in
New Orleans during Super Bowl week and will be on-hand to personally train and
work with Hershey's Million Dollar Kick contestant.
The grand prize winner can't lose. If the kicker is successful, they will
win $1,000,000. If the kick misses the mark, a $10,000 consolation prize will
be awarded in addition to the trip to New Orleans.
This is the seventh year for Hershey's Million Dollar Kick Sweepstakes and
the third year for the grand prize winner to attempt the field goal "live"
during the Super Bowl pre-game show. The 1998 and 1997 contestants walked away
with the $1,000,000 grand prize.
