
Hispanic CREO Fights to Improve Educational Equality for Latino Children During National School Choice Week, January 23-29, 2011

MIAMI, Jan. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- With a dedication to closing the unacceptable academic achievement gap between white and Latino children, Hispanic Americans from across the country will demand access to better schools for their children during the first-ever National School Choice Week, January 23-29, 2011. The Hispanic Council for Reform and Educational Options (Hispanic CREO, www.hcreo.com) will lead the effort, organizing half a dozen events across the country.
Legendary performer Jon Secada will kick off Hispanic CREO's celebration of National School Choice Week on Tuesday at 1:30 PM Eastern, with a special telephone press conference for reporters. The call, moderated by Hispanic CREO's CEO, Julio Fuentes, will focus on improving educational outcomes for Latino Children. "Improving access to quality schools is the single most important thing that we can do to ensure that Hispanic children achieve their dreams and succeed in life," Secada said. Hispanic CREO supports charter schools, opportunity scholarships, and scholarship tax credit programs to enhance access to better schools.
"It is completely unacceptable that the dropout rate for Hispanic children is a staggering 57 percent," Fuentes said. "During National School Choice Week, Hispanic CREO will work to educate everyone—within the Hispanic community and across the nation—about the need to provide immediate options for parents so that their children can reach graduation and excel."
