WHAT: History in the Making -- Shriners Hospitals for Children -- Patient Move Day WHEN: Monday, February 2 TIME: 10:00 AM sharp with a full police escort. Broad St. DETAILS: Shriners Hospitals for Children will transport patients to their new home in a manner that is truly befitting to the Shrine Organization. A caravan of ambulances, lead by a full police escort with lights and sirens, will make its way South on Roosevelt Boulevard to their new state-of-the-art pediatric facility. Patients have decorated the fence that surrounds the existing facility on Strahle Street (Northeast Philadelphia) with a farewell message. Shrine Klownz will be on hand at the Broad Street facility to greet and welcome the children to their new home. The new facility replaces the existing facility on Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia, which has been occupied since 1926. The new 80-bed orthopaedic pediatric hospital has been designed to enable patients to recover from surgery and participate in rehabilitation in a family-centered atmosphere. It will also continue the Shriners tradition of providing expert medical care totally free of charge to children between the ages of birth to 18 years of age, with orthopaedic conditions resulting from injuries and diseases of the bones, joints and muscles as well as spinal cord injuries.
