Holiday Dinners for Those With Little Time to Cook

Nov 10, 2005, 00:00 ET from Food Lion LLC

    SALISBURY, N.C., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- It's become the holiday dilemma
for countless families. The holidays mean big family meals, but many families
have no one with the time, talent or inclination to cook.
For those who still want to gather at home and share a festive meal,
grocers like Food Lion offer a holiday solution -- store-cooked dinners,
including turkey, dressing and all of the fixings.
"Times are changing. Moms and dads are busy. Some see the holidays as a
time to relax a little, not spend hours in the kitchen. At the same time, the
family holiday meal is a tradition we cling to and want to continue. That's
where your local grocery store can help," said Tammy DeBoer, Food Lion vice
president of deli, bakery and home meal solutions merchandising.
Food Lion delis, for example, are offering three different ready-prepared
holiday meals. All that's required by the customer at home is a little re-
heating. The Food Lion holiday meals include:
      - Carolina Turkey Dinner -- $29.99
         - Eight to 10-pound turkey
         - Two pounds of corn bread dressing
         - One pound of giblet gravy
         - 12 ounces of cranberry relish
      - Butterball(R) Turkey Dinner -- $39.99
         - 10 to 12-pound Butterball(R) turkey
         - Two pounds of corn bread dressing
         - Two pounds of broccoli casserole
         - One pound of giblet gravy

      - Smithfield Ham Dinner -- $39.99
         - Two pounds of broccoli casserole

Considering Food Lion also offers a full selection of fresh produce,
canned vegetables, fresh breads, ready-to-eat desserts and beverages, a
complete holiday meal, requiring little work, can be purchased for
 approximately $60 or less.
"For someone with little time or inclination to prepare a home-cooked
meal, Food Lion offers a great, high quality alternative and a great value,"
 DeBoer said.
"Supermarket delis-bakeries have been a source for holiday party trays,
cakes and other desserts for many years. Now we offer more home meal solutions
and are ready to assist our time-pressed customers with all of their holiday
 meal needs," DeBoer added.
Food Lion still offers everything needed to prepare a traditional holiday
meal. 2004 turkey sales are an indication many families still find the time to
fix a home-cooked meal. Last year, during the Thanksgiving sales period, Food
Lion stores sold approximately 1,452 tons of fresh turkey, 473 tons of fresh
turkey breast, 8,217 tons of frozen turkey and 2,663 tons of frozen turkey
