MIDWEST CITY, Okla., Sept 20 /PRNewswire/ -- An Original Freedom Writer, Manuel V. Scott, whose story is told in the Hollywood movie, Freedom Writers, starring two-time Academy Award® winner Hillary Swank, will be speaking Thursday and Friday, September 23 and 24, 2010, at Jarman Middle School, Del City High School, and Cedar Ridge to students, staff, teachers, and parents.

Kathy Dunn, Director of State and Federal Programs, and Heather Johnson, coordinator for Parent Education, said they have invited Manuel Scott to their district because of his unique ability to touch audiences: "In the past, we have had speakers who did a great job at speaking to the 'educator' in teachers, but nobody can touch the heart, stimulate the mind, and create lasting change like Mr. Scott," said Johnson.

"I was once dismissed as 'unreachable' and 'unteachable,' and classified as an 'English as a Second Language' student," says Scott.  At the age of fourteen, Manuel dropped out of school, and began to fulfill the awful prediction that he would be either dead or in jail by the age of eighteen.
