Including HCA Foundation matching gifts and other contributions, the total impact of the 2009 "Caring for the Community" campaign is a record $3.2 million.
The theme for this year's approximately five-week campaign was "Tune in to Music City." It included two "HCA Community Days" on September 15 and September 24, during which 1,639 HCA employees volunteered nearly 10,000 hours of company time, representing an in-kind contribution of about $200,000, to work on 108 projects at agencies throughout Middle Tennessee. The number of employee volunteers and the number of projects are campaign records.
"Humanitarianism and volunteerism are deeply embedded in HCA's culture, and that is demonstrated by this year's record response," said Bruce Moore, President of HCA's Outpatient Services Group and this year's Leadership Campaign Chair. "We appreciate the generosity of our employees and their commitment to our community, not only during this campaign but throughout the year."
HCA also announced that Teryna Edwards is the recipient of this year's Phil Patton Community Service Award. Edwards, who has been involved in prison ministry for 19 years, received a special award and a $2,500 trip voucher. In addition, the HCA Foundation will donate $2,500 to the agency of Edward's choice. Phil Patton was HCA's senior vice president of human resources.
