- Combined Mobile Core Network Platform Reduces Total Cost of Ownership Up to 80% While Cutting Mobile Service Deployment Time by Two Thirds -

Aug 05, 2015, 08:36 ET from Elephant Talk Communications Corp.

NEW YORK, Aug. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Elephant Talk Communications Corp. (NYSE MKT: ETAK) ("Elephant Talk" or the "Company"), a global provider of Software Defined Network Architecture (ET Software DNA® 2.0) platforms and cyber security solutions, today announced that its technology partner, Hewlett Packard, has published a new case study entitled, "Elephant Talk Communications transforms mobile service enablement with HP iHSS." The case study examines the many benefits resulting from the integration of its new HP Integrated Home Subscriber Server (iHSS) technology into the ET Software DNA® 2.0 Software Defined Networking platform currently deployed with mobile network operator (MNO) and mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) customers.

By deploying HP iHSS—the world's first solution to merge Home Location Register (HLR) with Home Subscriber Server (HSS) into a single software-based solution and running on HP servers, Elephant Talk is able to provide a single user data registry (UDR) enabling seamless mobile subscriber access across 2G, 3G, CDMA, IP multimedia subsystems, 4G/LTE and WiFi networks. With this innovative solution, Elephant Talk reduced total cost of ownership by 70-80% while achieving 100% uptime for critical HLR/HSS services for its customers.

"Using our fully deployed ET Software DNA® 2.0 virtualized mobile core network platform, HP and Elephant Talk are continuing to revolutionize the industry for MNOs and MVNOs around the globe by being at the forefront for Software Defined Networks," said Steven van der Velden, Elephant Talk's Chairman and CEO. "With the addition of the fully software-based HP iHSS, our carrier-grade, fully virtualized core network software solution delivers the highest key performance indicators while slashing the cost of deployments. As demonstrated by the launch of the Lowi brand in Spain earlier this year, we can deliver that performance while enabling service launches much more rapidly. Our partnership with HP has been a vital part of our global strategy and we look forward to working together to deploy this one-of-a-kind solution with new operators later this year."

Martin Zuurbier, Elephant Talk's CTO and co-President of its Platform Business, added, "Mobile network operators face great challenges in today's market due to the complicated and inflexible legacy network systems powering their operations. HP and Elephant Talk are selling a solution with the agility, reliability and cost effectiveness necessary for MNOs and MVNOs to stay competitive and deliver the next generation of services consumers are demanding."

The case study discusses the agility of Elephant Talk's ET Software DNA® 2.0 Platform and HP infrastructure, enabling MNOs and MVNOs to quickly add capabilities and services to keep up with a constantly evolving market. This includes large-scale projects like implementing number portability, which is critical for onboarding subscribers from other networks who want to keep their same mobile phone number. In the past, a number portability project could cost MNOs millions of dollars and take more than a year to complete. Elephant Talk can now deliver number portability in a few weeks at a fraction of the cost. Most other services can be added in five minutes or less, including price lists, anti-fraud control, cellular ID integration, and location-based marketing tools. In addition to the many features and capabilities of the combined HP/Elephant Talk solution, the case study also reported on a number of notable performance metrics including:

  • Achieving 100% uptime for business-critical HLR/HSS services, virtually eliminating outages that could easily cost millions of euros to MNOs and MVNOs
  • Enabling MNOs and MVNOs to respond more efficiently with service and support thanks to deep HLR/HSS integration and intelligence
  • Reducing time to launch new mobile service offerings from over a year to four months or less delivering "a huge competitive advantage in the fast-moving mobile telecommunications market"
