AmeriCares and America's Second Harvest are two of the most highly rated
U.S.-based charitable organizations, and they have committed to absorbing 100
percent of their own administrative costs associated with the donations for
the Hurricane Katrina disaster. This means that a full 100 percent of the
money Hunter Douglas contributed will be used for the direct benefit of those
in need. AmeriCares has a 23-year history of providing emergency medical
relief to natural and man-made disasters. America's Second Harvest is the
largest domestic hunger relief organization in the United States.
Hunter Douglas President and CEO Marv Hopkins presented the check today at
the company's Upper Saddle River, N.J., headquarters to Curt Welling,
President and COO of AmeriCares and Dina Vaz, Individual Philanthropy Officer
of America's Second Harvest.
"Hurricane Katrina has caused unprecedented destruction of homes,
businesses and infrastructure in addition to taking more than 1,000 lives. It
is the worst and most costly natural disaster in our nation's history," said
Hopkins. "On behalf of all Hunter Douglas employees throughout North America,
our independent fabricator partners and our retail customers, I'm honored to
present these donations to AmeriCares and America's Second Harvest. And, I am
most appreciative of each and every person who contributed to this crucial
effort. Our results speak to the extraordinary compassion and generosity of
our employees and customers, as we received contributions from more than 2,300
individuals."
