COLUMBIA, Md., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Icelandair, "the coolest airline crossing the Atlantic," has joined FairMarket, Inc. to deliver www.icelandairauction.com, an online auction site that will offer great fares to Icelandair's primary destinations in Scandinavia, the UK and continental Europe. Icelandair is the first airline to partner with FairMarket in this unique auction system. In the next few weeks, Icelandair plans to offer more than 500 seats for summer and fall travel, with start-up bids as low as one dollar for flights from New York (JFK), Boston, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Baltimore/Washington (BWI). "Online sales and marketing represent a fast-growing segment of Icelandair's business," said Magnus Stephensen, Icelandair's marketing manager in North America. "We believe this new venture keeps us on the cutting edge of e-commerce," he added. Last year, online sales generated in excess of 6% of the airline's revenues in North America. During the first quarter of 2000, online sales surpassed 14% of current revenues, more than doubling last year's performance. Icelandair North American gateways include Halifax in Canada and Boston, New York (JFK), Baltimore/Washington (BWI), Minneapolis/St. Paul and Orlando. Flights connect through the airline's hub in Reykjavik to Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Glasgow, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan and Madrid; Gothenburg, Helsinki, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Munich, Vienna, and Zurich via SAS codeshare; and Belfast, East Midlands and Dublin via British Midland codeshare.
