LOS ANGELES, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Multi-Grammy Award winner Ricky
 Martin lends his support to the SABERA Foundation that will soon be launched
 in the U.S. by Melanie Griffith, Penelope Cruz and Esther Canadas.
 Established in India by renowned Spanish singer/songwriter/producer, Nacho
 Cano, the non-profit organization is committed to changing the lives of street
 children and on improving the difficult situation faced by both widows and
 women who have been abandoned by their husbands.  Ricky recently visited the
 streets of Calcutta, where the SABERA Foundation was created, and he witnessed
 first hand the underprivileged women and children that swarm the streets of
 Calcutta.  After spending much time with the children and witnessing the
 wonderful opportunities that the SABERA Foundation has created, he knew that
 joining the crusade against hunger would soon be his mission as well.
     "From 1984-1989 I had the opportunity to be an international ambassador
 for peace and work with various charity organizations around the world.  Just
 a few weeks ago, I traveled to the Kalitala home that the SABERA Foundation
 has created in Calcutta.  The difference between the children that I worked
 with before and the girls in Kalitala is the amount of love that I saw in
 their eyes, which is a direct result of the affection and love that they are
 receiving on a daily basis from the people at the foundation," said Ricky
 Martin.  "In Kalitala, the SABERA Foundation has created a universe that is a
 part of our universe, but different from ours in that in Kalitala, you can
 only find respect, love and lots of prosperity.  It is an honor to work with
 the SABERA Foundation as they continue to dedicate their efforts to improving
 the lives of the girls in India.  Hopefully this is only the beginning of what
 the SABERA Foundation will achieve around the world."
     Dedicated to the creation of employment programs, education reform,
 improved health care and nutrition, SABERA prepares and teaches children basic
 and essential skills that will one day provide them with a sustainable source
 of income and independence.
     SABERA's first Fundraising event in the U.S. will take place October 10th
 in Los Angeles and Ricky Martin is on the Honorary Committee for the event.
 Proceeds will help build hospitals and schools in Calcutta that will give many
 women and children a better opportunity to be educated.  Additional event
