WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by James Williams, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades General President:
"This is a proud day for our great country. The men and women of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades praise the Obama/Biden team on its decisive and historic victory. I've been involved in politics my whole life and this campaign was a thing of beauty. We are honored to have been a part of it. In my travels to rally the vote for Obama, state after state after state, I was greeted with the same thing: men and women of all ages and from all walks of life calling for change in one, unified voice.
"We've chosen the leader who brings to Washington the promise of unity, determination and compassion. The Obama presidency will show the world that the United States of America always rises to a challenge and always finds a way to prevail.
"As a union member and leader, I look forward to working with this new administration to better the lives of working families in this great country. Vice President-elect Joe Biden has long been a strong voice in Washington for the men and women who work every day to build America. We know that he and our new president will use that voice to ensure that our jobs, our safety, our fair wages and our rights in the workplace are all protected. Their leadership will give us the chance to live the lives we've all worked so hard for every day. Today, the members of the IUPAT stand ready to do their part build a new America with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden."
The IUPAT represents more than 160,000 active and retired IUPAT members in North America. Its members are painters, glaziers, floor coverers and drywall finishers, among other construction trades.
