Investment in CAMI-GM Ingersoll a Boost for Industry and Community

INGERSOLL, ON, March 8, 2013 /CNW/ - The CAW is applauding the announcement by General Motors this morning to invest $250 million in its CAMI facility, in Ingersoll, Ontario.

The new investment will be used to turn CAMI into a flexible manufacturing facility that can produce multiple architectures and body styles.

"This is excellent news for the Canadian auto industry, workers and the community that greatly depends on this manufacturing facility," said CAW National President Ken Lewenza. "New investment in infrastructure is difficult to obtain in today's economic climate. This success can be directly attributed to the quality work of CAW members at CAMI."

The expansion and transformation of the current body shop, as well as new tooling is needed to support a future new product program, according to General Motors.

"Workers at CAMI have demonstrated many times over that this unionized facility is incredibly productive and competitive within the Canadian, and indeed North American auto industry," said CAW Local 88 President Dan Borthwick, representing workers at the CAMI facility.

"Investment in infrastructure will mean greater job security for those working at the facility and the thousands of other workers whose livelihoods depend on it," Borthwick said.
