NEW YORK, July 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Iran and the Palestinian Authority have revealed again the depths of their imagination.

Iran's ambassador to the UN charged that Israel carried out the recent terror attack on Israeli tourists in Bulgaria. "Such a terrorist operation could only be carried out by the same regime whose short history is full of state terrorism operations and assassinations aimed at implicating others for narrow political gains," Ambassador Mohammad Khazaee told the UN Security Council yesterday. "I could provide many examples showing that this regime killed its own citizens and innocent Jewish people, during the last couple of decades...in order to blame others…" he continued.

The Iranian official's outrageous accusation comes amidst widespread suspicions that Iran, and its terror proxy Hezbollah, were directly involved in the attack, part of their decades-old terror campaign against Israelis and Jews worldwide.

"Iran and Hezbollah can try to deny any connection with the horrific attack in Bulgaria, but to blame Israel is simply outlandish," said AJC Executive Director David Harris.

Meanwhile, from Ramallah, Palestinian Olympic Committee president Jibril Rajoub said that a moment of silence in honor of the 11 Israeli Olympians killed by terrorists 40 years ago would have been "racist." Endorsing the International Olympic Committee's rejection of the moment of silence, Rajoub wrote, in a letter to IOC President Jacques Rogge, that "sports are a bridge for love, communication and the spreading of peace between nations and should not be used for divisiveness and the spread of racism."

"For Rajoub to refer to Israel's appeal for a minute of silence in memory of 11 Israeli Olympians, all Jewish, targeted for killing by Palestinian terrorists as an act of 'racism,' represents almost unimaginable chutzpah," added Harris.

Only two years ago, PA President Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and other officials honored one of the attack's planners, Amin al-Hindi, a former Palestinian intelligence chief, at his funeral.

"Official PA glorification of the Palestinian terror attack at the 1972 Olympics Games, and the malicious Iranian charge that Israel kills its own citizens, are indicative of the saturation of denial and self-deception in the Middle East," said Harris.
