It's official…Canada rocks! And Canada Post has the stamps to prove it!
Five-stamp series features Canadian flag, including Biggest Living Flag ever recorded
WINNIPEG, Jan. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - Canada Post today celebrates Canadian culture with its Canadian Pride definitive stamp issue, the latest in the multi-year series. Four of the five PermanentTM domestic-rate stamps feature the flag adorning a uniquely Canadian scene. The fifth - and the heart of the series - spotlights the more than 3,000 Winnipeggers who, dressed in red and white t-shirts, gathered together last Canada Day on grounds of the Manitoba legislature to form a Living Flag.
"This stamp series puts Canadian patriotism on display," says Minister of State (Transport) Steven Fletcher. "I am thrilled that my hometown of Winnipeg was chosen to be a part of this wonderful collection."
"Last summer, Winnipeggers stood shoulder to shoulder to form the biggest Living Flag in the country," says Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger. "I am proud that their efforts will be permanently recorded in such a special way."
The other stamps in the series feature the flag creatively incorporated into distinctly Canadian settings. It covers the back of three Muskoka chairs facing a lake in early fall; adorns a hay bale on the prairies also in the fall; decorates the sail of a boat near Halifax in the summer; and blankets a winter fishing hut on a frozen lake in Scugog, Ontario.
With this series, veteran stamp designer Karen Smith set out to evoke the work, pastimes and values of Canadians from coast to coast to coast and across the seasons of the year. Canadian Pride stamps are available for purchase in all Canada Post outlets.
