Join The Fight to End Hunger in Dayton, OH SUBWAY® Restaurants of Dayton, OH and America's Egg Farmers Team Up to Donate 25,000 Eggs as Part of Good Egg Project

DAYTON, Ohio, Oct. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- According to recent data, eighteen percent of Ohio households are considered food insecure. This October, SUBWAY® Restaurants and America's egg farmers are teaming up to help feed those in need, and Dayton residents can help.

Beginning Monday, October 1 through Wednesday, October 31, America's egg farmers will donate an egg for every egg breakfast sandwich purchased from 6 to 11 a.m. at 2,000 participating SUBWAY® restaurants, including restaurants in Dayton, Ohio. The month-long campaign is part of the Good Egg Project, an initiative by America's egg farmers, to help educate people about where eggs come from and feed the hungry in the U.S.

"America's egg farmers are thrilled to partner with SUBWAY® restaurants to help fight hunger, as part of the Good Egg Project. We started this partnership three years ago in less than 500 SUBWAY® restaurants, so it's thrilling to expand to more than 2,000 restaurants this year, all in the name of helping people in need," said Joanne Ivy, president and CEO of the American Egg Board.

The donation will be made to The Foodbank and will go a long way in providing the high-quality protein food folks need, which is often something food banks lack. Eggs are not only an excellent source of protein, they're now 14 percent lower in cholesterol (down from 215 to 185 mg) and 64 percent higher in vitamin D.

This donation is one of many that will be taking place across the Northeast this month, resulting in more than 350,000 eggs donated to help fight hunger. "The SUBWAY® franchisees in Dayton are proud to join forces with America's egg farmers and their commitment to feeding the hungry," said Jonathan Feld, franchisee and Board Chair NY metro tri-state SUBWAY® restaurants.
