Junior Tennis Center at College Park and Mark Ein Announce Partnership as Newest World TeamTennis' Franchise comes to Nation's Capital
COLLEGE PARK, Md., May 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Saturday, May 31, 2008, the Junior Tennis Champions Center will announce their partnership with the Washington Kastles, the newest World TeamTennis franchise. The Washington Kastles will play their inaugural season in downtown Washington this summer thanks to DC native and philanthropist Mark Ein, who is bringing world-class tennis to the heart of the Nation's Capital. Martin Blackman, the Director of the Champions Program, is excited about the new partnership, "Mark's commitment to helping children, through supporting sports and education programs, is well-known. A partnership with the Kastles is a valuable opportunity for our program that will energize our students and families. We can't wait for the season to begin and to enjoy world-class tennis in a festive atmosphere, in the heart of DC." Over the past nine years the Champions Center has been successful in developing talented junior tennis players from DC-area communities. Their coaching philosophy is very simple: work hard, have fun and remember that character and education come first. By partnering with the Kastles, the Champions Program has an opportunity to expose their students to world-class tennis in a fun and unique atmosphere. World TeamTennis is known for its multi-colored courts, music played between points and player-fan interaction among other exciting innovations to professional tennis. "What Mark is doing for tennis in our region is phenomenal," states Martin Blackman, Director of the Junior Tennis Champions Center. "Bringing the Washington Kastles franchise into the heart of the city will give everyone a chance to see great tennis. When Mark chose the site, he put the City first, and he made possible for children and families and working people to see great tennis in a very accessible place. That's very admirable. The Kastles will be partnering with other great tennis and education programs throughout the DC Area, and we are proud to be one of those chosen." The Kastles and the Champions Center will officially announce their partnership at a press conference at 5:00 p.m. on May 31, 2008 at the Tennis Center at College Park, located at 5200 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD 20740. World famous coach and promoter Wayne Bryan, who is coach of the defending WTT champion Sacramento Capitals, and father of the world #1 ranked doubles team and Kansas City Explorers Bob and Mike Bryan, will be on hand to answer questions about World Team Tennis and the state of American tennis. Tickets are available for all Kastles' home matches. The team will be led by nine-time Grand Slam Champion Serena Williams, first-round draft pick Justin Gimelstob and pro tour veteran Mashona Washington. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster or by visiting WashingtonKastles.com or by calling (202) 4-TENNIS. The Champions Center (a 501 c3) began in 1999 with a goal to be the best junior tennis training center in the world. Since then, the program has produced ten National Champions in all junior age groups and has sent over 40 players with the tools to become student-athletes at top universities. Four former Champions Center students are currently competing successfully on the professional tour. In addition to being the best on the court, the Champions Center strives to be the best in the community. By offering free clinics and Financial Aid for underserved families, the program allows students from all backgrounds to learn the game of tennis. The Champions Center uses tennis as a vehicle for success in all of life's endeavors. A portion of the proceeds from the Washington Kastles will help support Financial Aid at the Junior Tennis Champions Center. This year the Champions Program awarded more than $200,000 in Financial Aid to kids in the program.
