JunTos and MassMutual's LINQFinancialGroup Combine Forces to Combat Cancer and Heart Disease

Both groups will extend financial literacy to Latinos

MIAMI, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- When financial services firm LINQFinancialGroup (Linq) stepped in to become the title sponsor of the JunTos' 5(th) Annual Fundraiser, Luis Hernandez, who heads up the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) general agency, saw an opportunity to not only champion a very worthy cause, but also give back to his community. "I wanted to make a profound and positive impact on the lives of the people in our immediate and surrounding neighborhoods," said Hernandez.

Coming off the tremendous success of the JunTos June fundraiser, the two organizations today announced that a permanent partnership has been formed. "Luis brings a good deal of experience and influence to our young organization," said Lucas Diaz, Chairman of the Board. "Because of great Miami leaders like Luis, the JunTos foundation and its impact can grow year after year," he continued.

The funds raised by JunTos support community research and treatment programs to raise awareness and promote early detection for cancer and heart disease and to support the families that are currently in a battle with these diseases.

"JunTos is more than just another charity to me," Hernandez said, "this is a personal cause. Toti and Juanchi, the two young baseball players whose mashed up first names provide the moniker for the foundation, were both coached by my father. They touched and uplifted many lives."

Hernandez hopes to expand the good works of JunTos throughout southern Florida, while helping to educate Latinos on planning for their futures. Linq is sponsoring monthly charitable events for JunTos, often on the terrace of the firm's Miami offices. In addition, the financial services company plans to provide quarterly financial education seminars for the Foundation members on various financial service topics.

"With Linq's help, we can help our community and educate them to empower their futures," said Chris Mendoza, director of Multicultural Markets for MassMutual's U.S. Insurance Group. "There is no better way to honor the memory of these two young men whose lives were so tragically cut short by disease," he concluded.

Linq's efforts in the Miami area are part of the company's overall focus on providing financial education for Hispanics, who are the largest minority segment in the United States, wielding a projected $992 billion in buying power in 2009 (Selig Center for Economic Growth's The Multicultural Economy, 1990-2009*). MassMutual launched its focus on Latino fiscal fitness earlier this year in Houston.
