LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kaufman Legal Group will receive the Miguel Contreras Foundation Award on November 15th for its long-standing support of the community service foundation—an organization founded out of the Los Angeles labor movement to build on the legacy of union leader Miguel Contreras.
"Stephen Kaufman and The Kaufman Legal Group have supported us for many, many years in our pursuit to promote a voice for working families," said foundation spokeswoman Mariana Villafana. "We're proud to honor business leaders, like Stephen, who do right by workers. They believe in the work we do to empower the most underserved communities in Los Angeles County."
Stephen J. Kaufman, the firm's principal and a leading expert in campaign finance and election law, will accept the award on behalf of his firm at the Union Station ceremony, along with esteemed honorees Adrian Gonzalez (accepting for the Los Angeles Dodgers), American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, and civil rights pioneer the Rev. James M. Lawson, Jr.
Villafana added that Kaufman Legal Group is the first law firm ever to be honored by the foundation, which is named after the first person of color to lead the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor in its 131-year history.
Kaufman founded Kaufman Legal Group in 1996. The leading political law firm, with offices in Los Angeles and Sacramento, represents elected officials, candidates, labor unions, PACs, non-profit organizations, businesses, ballot measure campaigns, political parties, major donors, lobbying firms and government agencies on a wide variety of campaign finance, election and governmental ethics matters.
"As a firm, we are committed to issues that affect the daily lives of working men and women in Los Angeles and the State of California," said Kaufman. "We are particularly proud of our role in helping our friends in organized labor achieve an increase in the minimum wage, and our work during the current election cycle in helping to address the homeless problem and the issue of affordable housing in Los Angeles."
Earlier this year, Kaufman was recognized by the Los Angeles Business Journal as one of LA's most influential leaders. He is also a past recipient of the California State Bar's Wiley W. Manuel Award for his commitment to pro bono legal services.
