MENLO PARK, Calif., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Businesses today are taking steps to persuade valued staff to stay -- and they don't involve a ball and chain. Offering flexible schedules and increasing base compensation also are popular retention strategies, among 47 percent and 41 percent of respondents, respectively. The national poll includes responses from more than 1,400 CIOs from a stratified random sample of U.S. companies with 100 or more employees. It was conducted by an independent research firm and developed by Robert Half Technology, a leading provider of information technology professionals on a project and full-time basis. Their responses: Providing training or professional development 63% Offering flexible schedules 47% Increasing base compensation 41% Offering bonuses 31% Offering equity incentives 9% Other 4% None/no steps taken 23% (Multiple responses were allowed.) Lee added that effective retention programs also address work-life balance and salary issues.
