Kim McCleary named president of Town Hall Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, March 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Town Hall Los Angeles (www.townhall-la.org) today announced former Los Angeles Times executive Kim McCleary has been named president of the nonprofit, nonpartisan public forum. She replaces Jon Goodman who has increased the number of speaking events featuring world leaders in business, politics and culture by more than 300 percent since she took over in 2005.
"Being President of Town Hall is not a position, it's a stewardship. Two months ago, when we learned that Kim might be available, we immediately saw her as the opportunity for a next generation steward -- and a very strong one at that," Goodman said. "I'm looking forward to returning to the board to support Kim and to a new start in my career in finance."
McCleary is well known in the Los Angeles community. Reporting to several Los Angeles Times' Publishers, she served in a myriad of positions including vice president of planning, new business development, public affairs, and advertising sales strategy. She also served as President of the Times Mirror Foundation and The Los Angeles Times Foundation. McCleary was also the first woman to lead The Times' press operations and circulation distribution departments.
In the last three years, McCleary has served as COO and CFO of New Visions Foundation. She has been responsible for managing fundraising, community outreach, marketing, operations, strategic planning, financials and programs for the nonprofit organization which is committed to providing impactful educational programs benefiting Los Angeles County's most at risk youth.
"The value to Town Hall Los Angeles of Kim's background in community outreach, fundraising and as an executive at one of the top media organizations in the country cannot be overstated," said Viktor Rzeteljski, Chairman of the Board at Town Hall. "We just celebrated our 75th year, and I am very proud we have strong leadership in place to continue the great work that Jon has been doing over the past eight years. Jon will be missed, but her efforts to bring Kim in offers an easy transition and puts us in great hands moving forward."
McCleary has served on a number of boards and community posts, including: Board of Visitors, Pepperdine University Graziadio School of Business Management; the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley; Chairman of the Hollywood Entertainment Education Center; Executive Vice President, PUENTE Learning Center; Executive and Governance Committees, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corp. (LAEDC); Member of the United Way of Greater Los Angeles Community Investment Cabinet and Home Walk Committees; Board Member, Central City Association; Board Officer, Organization of Women Executives; and Executive Communications Committee, Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles.
She's won the University of Southern California "Women of Distinction Award" and the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce "Public Service Award." McCleary has an MBA from Pepperdine's Graziadio School of Business & Management and a bachelor's degree from Stanford University.
