Kloosterboer Forecasts Busy 2010 for Expanded Dutch Harbor Port Facility
First Phase of $150 Million Project Ignites Immediate Demand for Upcoming Season
SEATTLE, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- In the four months since its grand opening in July, Kloosterboer Dutch Harbor has met with several major fishing companies that are seeking to use the facility as a one-stop logistical hub for the 2010 season, according to the facility's general manager.
"We're very pleased with the immediate demand and interest we've received in such a short time and feel confident that the new facility can be a major boost for the fishing industry in Dutch Harbor," said Steve Abernathy, general manager of the Kloosterboer Dutch Harbor facility. "With the opening of Kloosterboer Dutch Harbor, commercial fishing companies, both large and small, now have access to world-class port facilities and services that enable them to more efficiently unload and manage all of the logistics related to their cargo."
In addition to increasing efficiency, commercial fishing companies now have the opportunity to more aggressively promote safer and cleaner processes that enable their products to reach the marketplace in the best condition possible. As a global leader in cold storage and transportation logistics, the Kloosterboer network provides KDH customers access to all major global markets including Asia, Europe and North America via its port facilities in Busan, South Korea; Ijmuiden, The Netherlands; and Bayside, New Brunswick.
After decades of working in woefully outdated conditions that included dilapidated and unprotected docks, Kloosterboer's new facility provides members of the fishing industry with a world-class facility that includes a new 1,000-foot-deep draft dock, 25,000 square feet of cold storage and sheltered areas for offloading.
Industry leaders already using the facility expect to see an immediate increase in efficiency and profit as a result of using the new port in 2010. Kloosterboer's global leadership in Holland also sees the facility as a powerful opportunity for Dutch Harbor to elevate and positively enhance its reputation around the world.
"While Dutch Harbor has long been recognized as a leading source of seafood, it has never had the port resources or world-class image needed to reach its full potential," said Johan Kloosterboer, chief executive officer of the Kloosterboer Group. "With the opening of Kloosterboer Dutch Harbor, that's about to change. And that's great news for every member of the Western Alaska fishing community."
