ST. LOUIS, June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Laclede Gas Company, in its continuing
effort to enhance customer service, today requested permission from the
Missouri Public Service Commission to fully implement its electronic billing
or "e-bill" system.
Laclede Gas wants to offer its customers a convenient, paperless way to
receive and pay their natural gas bills.
"With this service, our customers can save time by viewing and paying
their monthly gas bills from their choice of Internet service sites," said
Richard N. Hargraves, Laclede's Director of Corporate Communications. "They
don't need to write a check and then find an envelope and stamps each month."
Through a relationship with CheckFree Corporation, Laclede Gas and its
operating divisions -- St. Charles Gas, Missouri Natural Gas and Midwest
Missouri Gas -- recently developed an electronic billing and payment option.
If the Public Service Commission approves the e-bill option, customers will be
able to view and pay their monthly gas bills through their choice of about 475
financial services web sites that include banks, brokerages, credit unions,
Internet portals and personal financial management software.
With the e-bill system, customers can make their payments online and view
up to six months of past electronic bill statements. When they approve their
monthly payment with the specified amount, it is deducted from their
designated bank, credit union or brokerage account.
Laclede already offers customers these payment options:
-- Easy-Pay direct payment plan, in which customers can have their
checking or savings accounts automatically debited to pay their monthly
-- Payments of any type are accepted at 89 area supermarkets and grocers
so customers don't have to travel to Laclede offices during business
-- Gift certificates for merchandise. The gift certificates, in $25
denominations, are available from the Laclede Gas payment office at 720
Olive in downtown St. Louis and by mail order to: Laclede Gas,
