Lady Barbara Thomas Judge Selected as New York University Law Alumna of the Month
Chairwoman of United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority Brings a "Decidedly Entrepreneurial Edge"
LONDON, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- New York University Law School Alumni have selected Lady Barbara Thomas Judge, Chairwoman of the UK Atomic Energy Authority, as their October 2009 Alumna of the month. The profile details the remarkable life of the American born, former head of the Security and Exchange Commission including her law career beginnings and the importance of being prepared.
The profile states "Over a long career, Lady Barbara Thomas Judge has built a resume most attorneys would envy . . . Lady Judge was the youngest commissioner appointed to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where in the 1980s she helped usher in unprecedented access for foreign companies to U.S. capital markets. She has been a member of boards of major merchant banks and media conglomerates from Hong Kong to New York, and founded Private Equity Investor, one of the first British fund of funds investing in American private equity funds."
In her current position at the UK's Atomic Energy Authority, "Lady Judge has brought a decidedly entrepreneurial edge to the organization, including the creation of a consulting arm to work with foreign governments on decommissioning nuclear sites and planning programs for civil nuclear new build."
From her vast personal experiences, Lady Judge advises "You can never be overprepared . . . Field Marshal Lord Inge once taught me the lesson that time spent in preparation is never wasted."
The NYU Law Alumnus/Alumna of the Month program showcases 12 outstanding alumni each year and is designed to recognize exceptional contributions to the legal profession or other chosen field.
