Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band Celebrates Equality With Nov. 9 Concert In Chicago's Lakeview Neighborhood

CHICAGO, Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band  (www.lakesidepride.org) will reflect and celebrate as Illinois becomes the 15th state to grant same-sex couples the freedom to marry. On Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m., the ensemble will present "Stand Up! A Musical Celebration of Equality" at the Nettelhorst School Auditorium, 3252 N. Broadway, Chicago.

This special performance—featuring the Chicago premiere of "Colors: A Celebration"—presents music that champions equality. "Colors" is a reflection of the diversity, strength and unbreakable spirit of the LGBT community. Composer Tim Jansa will talk about his musical interpretation of the Gay Rights Movement—from Stonewall to the present—during a FREE PreConcert Conversation 30 minutes before the start of the concert.

This performance also includes "A Movement for Rosa," a musical tribute to civil rights hero Rosa Parks by Chicago composer Mark Camphouse, "Candide Suite" and "Somewhere (from "West Side Story") by Leonard Bernstein, as well as "Wedding March" by Felix Mendelssohn. Additional masterworks inspire a sense of victory, transcendent peace, and hope for the future.

Tickets are $20, $12 for students and seniors, and are available online at LakesidePride.org and before the concert. A portion of ticket sales benefits the Equality Illinois Education Project, the 501(c)(3) arm of Equality Illinois, which focuses on LGBT educational outreach.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on silent auction items throughout the evening, including an autographed Chicago Blackhawks hockey stick, passes to Chicago cultural institutions, as well as delicious meals around town.  All proceeds will help Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles continue its mission to help the LGBT community connect with diverse audiences through music.
