Addressing the C-level gathering, Nitin Bhat, Partner, Frost & Sullivan, said, "Though operating in different business sectors, the recipients from the three industries have all weathered one of the toughest economic climates. However, a focus on business fundamentals, flexibility in business models, continuous innovation and focus on talent management has allowed these award recipients to buck the trend and continue to grow their businesses. Thus, the recipients honored at tonight's banquet are true heroes who have proven their extraordinary business capabilities by withstanding one of the most challenging economic periods of our time."
Elaborating on the opportunities in healthcare despite the challenges faced by participants in the sector in 2009, Rhenu Bhuller, global vice-president, Pharmaceuticals / Biotech from Frost & Sullivan said, "The companies honoured tonight are those that have taken the lead in 2009 and took opportunities rather than worked reactively. They have cleverly set their foresight on a long term game plan, and see the Asia Pacific region as an important part of their global organization. In the healthcare space specifically, technology is the enabler that moves the industry forward. This is applicable from the early stage drug discovery and clinical research up till hospital systems and recording of medical information at the physician or patient levels. Organizations that have succeeded are pioneers and leaders in their field, and will play an important role in contributing to the double digit growth seen by the healthcare sector in the Asia Pacific region. Biopharma and healthcare information technology are among the key areas driving this growth."
Summarizing the success of the recipients from the transportation & logistics sector, Gopal R, vice president for Transportation & Logistics Practice, Asia Pacific at Frost & Sullivan said that 2009 was a challenging year for the transportation and logistics industry in Asia as logistics expenditures declined.
"However, we have seen remarkable performance from some transportation and logistics companies that have managed to weather the storm and emerged stronger. Today, we honor those companies that have shown resilience and exemplary achievements during the crisis," he said.
Mr. Gopal also said that a common factor among all the award recipients is that they have an outstanding commitment to their clients. "They have reacted quickly to accommodate their customers' needs and preference," he added.
Though broadly termed as the industrial technologies sector, coming from niche operational space – semiconductor, biometrics, solar energy and chemical production – the recipients from these areas too were highly commended by Satish Lele, vice-president of the Industrial Technologies practice at Frost & Sullivan. "The industrial sector is a key driver of manufacturing activity and economic progress. It also is the single largest contributor to improvements in productivity and innovation. A number of companies in this sector smartly used this period of uncertainty to invest in process, technology and research which now gives them the edge as the economy improves. The companies being awarded tonight are those that have successfully demonstrated these qualities."
