Leading Chain Restaurants Recognize Supplier Partners With Cheers Supplier of the Year Awards

    NORWALK, Conn., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- "While we feel we are in
 partnership with all our suppliers, we wanted to publicly recognize those true
 partners who go above and beyond what is required of them in order to support
 and grow our businesses," said Stan Novack, Vice President, Concept
 Development, HMS Host Corp. and chairman of the Cheers Supplier of the Year
 Awards, in announcing the initial recipients of this annual award.
     There are hundreds, if not thousands, of companies that supply products
 and services to any successful restaurant. And while the restaurant may garner
 rave reviews, rarely is any recognition given to all of those suppliers who
 contribute to the success. With that in mind, a panel composed of food and
 beverage executives of some of the largest full-service and casual-theme
 restaurant chains in the world have pooled their collective experiences to
 recognize those suppliers who have gone the extra mile in their business
 relationships. Following much discussion and debate, the winners of the first
 annual Cheers Supplier of the Year Awards, sponsored by Cheers magazine and
 its Editorial Advisory Board were recently announced. In addition to Novack,
 the jury included Patrick Droesch, Vice President of Beverages, Brinker
 International; Bill Edwards, Director of Beverage Marketing, The Olive Garden,
 and Doug Jackson, Beverage Director, Rare Hospitality.
     After Novack and the members of the jury weighed and evaluated the various
 nominations, the final decision was placed in the hands of the 32 operator
 members of the Cheers Editorial Advisory Board, which includes representatives
 from such restaurant operators as Red Lobster, Chili's, Outback Steakhouse,
 Hard Rock Cafe, Morton's, Marriott Hotels and Rock Bottom Restaurants. There
 was no participation in the process by either non-operator members of the
 board or by any representative of Cheers magazine. "Cheers sponsors the award
 and acts as the facilitator of the process, but the award itself is truly
 recognition from the community of restaurant operators to suppliers for a job
 consistently well-done," noted Charles Forman, Vice President & Publisher of
 the Adams Beverage Group, parent of Cheers magazine.
     The winners of the 2003 Cheers Supplier of the Year Awards are:
      * Best Spirits Supplier (a tie) -- Allied Domecq Spirits & Wine,
        Westport, CT and Diageo North America, Stamford, CT.
      * Best Beer Supplier -- Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis, MO.
      * Best Wine Supplier -- E&J Gallo Winery, Modesto, CA.
      * Best Non-Alcohol Beverages & Mixers Supplier -- Monin, Inc.,
        Clearwater, FL
      * Best Allied Product & Services Supplier -- ShowTenders, Inc.,
        Orlando, FL.
     The Cheers Supplier of the Year Awards were presented for the first time
 at this year's Cheers Beverage Conference in New Orleans. The 2004 Supplier of
 the Year Awards will be presented at next year's Cheers Beverage Conference,
 scheduled for February 17-18,2004 at the Hyatt Regency Irvine, Irvine, CA.
