Less is More: Introducing the Tellabs 7100 Nano Optical Transport System
Enables service providers to deliver more video at less cost
CHICAGO, June 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NXTcomm 2007 -- Users want
more choice and personalization in video services. With the new Tellabs(R)
7100 Nano(TM) optical transport system (OTS), service providers can deliver
more video faster, with less cost and hassle. The new system packs the
power of reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) and Ethernet
technology into a compact device, just half the size of comparable systems.
Big Performance in a Small Package
A smaller system shrinks capital and operating costs. The Tellabs(R)
7100 Nano(TM) OTS is so compact, it can reduce leasing costs in central
offices and data centers, where space for one equipment bay can cost
hundreds of dollars a month. It also reduces time to revenue, since it can
be installed in a matter of hours, rather than days. Service providers can
transform traditional transport into converged Ethernet transport,
preserving flexibility and reliability while lowering costs. The system
enables service providers to scale up with network needs, using a
pay-as-you-grow approach in both small and large serving areas.
"Video consumes 16 times more bandwidth than voice, so service
providers need to add more bandwidth quickly, with less time and expense,"
said Dan Kelly, executive vice president, transport products for Tellabs.
"The Tellabs 7100 Nano system is a reliable, flexible and cost-effective
way to meet video and Ethernet needs -- its small size makes a big
difference for our customers."
It Runs in the Family
The Tellabs 7100 Nano OTS builds on the strength of its father, the
Tellabs(R) 7100 optical transport system. The Tellabs 7100 OTS is among the
solutions Verizon uses to provide instant bandwidth in its FiOS network,
which delivers advanced video, Internet and voice directly to homes.
Seeing Is Believing

OTS, a live IPTV demonstration over its father, the Tellabs 7100 OTS, and
new Ethernet and system enhancements. Availability of the Tellabs 7100 Nano
OTS is planned for the fourth quarter of 2007.
The Tellabs 7100 Nano OTS is an integral part of the Tellabs(R)
AssuredEthernet(SM) solution and the Tellabs(R) DynamicHome(SM) solution.
