SAN DIEGO, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- For the past month, LG Electronics
MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. (LG Mobile Phones) focused on finding the fastest
thumbs in the U.S. This exhilarating task lead them from the sunny skies of
Hollywood to the skyscrapers of New York, where they concluded the first
national text messaging competition, the LG National Texting Championship,
on Saturday at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. Although over 300
competitors thought their thumbs could out-text the best, 13-year-old
Morgan Pozgar prevailed as the LG National Texting Champion. The Claysburg,
Pennsylvania resident had an impressive text message speed of 42 seconds
for a 151 character phrase, which earned her the title of LG National
Texting Champion and $25,000 cash.
During this exciting afternoon of thumb exercises and speed-texting,
these often overlooked appendages captured the spotlight as contestants
battled each other for over $40,000 in cash and prizes. Contestants had the
chance to test their texting capabilities based on speed and accuracy by
battling it out on their QWERTY keypad mobile devices for money, fame and
the LG National Texting Championship crown.
"I am so shocked right now. I send over 4,000 texts every month and
can't believe that I actually won the whole competition," said Pozgar. "Now
I want to go shopping."
Pozgar's winning phrase was, "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocios! Even
though the sound of it is something quite atrocious. If you say it loud
enough you'll always sound precocious."
Pozgar came to New York City with her mother Shannon and 15-year-old
brother Kyle, who won a 50" plasma LG television in a consolation round.
The family had never been to New York City and Shannon was shocked about
how well both of her children did in the competition.
"I am so proud of Morgan right now. She's such a great kid and deserves
this so much," said Shannon Pozgar. "When we walked in we were so happy to
get foam thumbs and the chance to win a $50 gift card. I never thought I
would be in New York with $25,000."
The LG National Championship featured pools of contestants who were
asked to type phrases on their LG handsets exactly as they appeared on the
overhead LG plasma screens without typos or abbreviations. The first player
in each pool who sent an error-free message to the right contact advanced
to the next round until Pozgar was crowned as the LG National Texting
"When LG designed the enV phone we knew it would be an ideal device for
heavy texters," said Jon Maron, senior director of marketing for LG
Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. "We are happy to congratulate Morgan on
her thrilling win at the LG National Texting Championship and encourage
everyone to keep using their thumbs and LG phones to communicate with
friends and family."
The LG National Championship was hosted by the multi-talented Oliver
"Ali" Nejad, a renowned poker player and host known for his natural wit and
charm. During a preliminary competition which took place on March 31 at
Paramount Studios in Hollywood, 21-year-old Los Angeles native Eli Tirosh
was crowned the West Coast Texting Champion.
The competition was free and open to anyone to compete with an
activated enV or V by LG.
