Across the state of Utah, there were approximately 6,214* vehicles stolen in 2008 (latest figures available), 4,863** of which were in the Salt Lake City area.  With the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System entering Utah and greater Salt Lake City, vehicle owners now can have a proven solution that enables police to recover their vehicle if stolen.  Nationally the percentage of stolen vehicles not recovered has steadily increased over the past decade, whereas LoJack has consistently delivered a 90 percent recovery success rate.  To date, LoJack has recovered more than 250,000 stolen assets worldwide, translating into more than $5 billion in recovered assets.

The LoJack System will be used by local and regional law enforcement agencies in the Salt Lake City area, including the Salt Lake City Police Department, Utah Highway Patrol and the Utah Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division.  LoJack provided its Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) to these agencies at no cost.  The PTCs are installed in police vehicles and are used to find and recover stolen vehicles equipped with the LoJack System.

"We're proud to work with Utah law enforcement and bring residents of Salt Lake City and its surrounding areas the most effective solution in stolen vehicle recovery," said Ronald V. Waters, President and CEO of LoJack Corporation.  "Our system is based on time-tested Radio Frequency (RF) technology and consistently delivers a 90 percent recovery rate.  Unlike GPS-based systems, the LoJack Stolen Recovery System's RF technology can pinpoint the precise location of a stolen vehicle even if it is hidden in a steel container, concrete garage, under dense foliage or even in a chop shop, enabling police to quickly recover it."

How LoJack Works

The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System, which is uniquely integrated with law enforcement, includes a small wireless Radio Frequency transceiver that is hidden in a vehicle in one of more than 20 possible locations.  Once the vehicle is reported stolen to the police, the vehicle's identification number is matched to the LoJack System's registration number by state law enforcement computers.  After the match, the LoJack System is automatically activated by police, triggering a small, hidden radio transceiver in the vehicle to emit a silent, continuous signal.  Law enforcement vehicles and aircraft equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers follow these signals, which lead to the precise location of the stolen vehicle.
