TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Majestic Athletic and the Chicago White Sox pitched a major curveball to the Garfield Park Little League team on Saturday, July 23rd. When the team showed up for morning practice, they were unexpectedly transported by bus to U.S. Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox, for a "Big Leaguer" experience. Outfitted in new custom Majestic uniforms, the Garfield Little Leaguers received private hitting, fielding, and pitching instruction from White Sox Pitcher Carson Fulmer and the Bull Sox Academy. Later that evening, the Garfield Park Little Leaguers returned to US Cellular Field with their families for the White Sox – Tigers game, and once again, took the field and started the game with a unified chant of "Play Ball."
Garfield Park Little League is a 501 (c) (3) not–for-profit organization and a beacon of hope for the youth of Chicago's west side. Despite the socio-economic challenges of their surroundings, the group's mission is to establish baseball as a platform for teaching accountability, leadership skills, and to become positive contributors to society. There is also great emphasis placed on education. Each player is required to make good grades to participate.
"Garfield Park Little League is 100% vested in the community and future of our children," says Frank Brim, Chicago Fire Department Captain and Garfield Park Little League Founder and Director. "We would like to thank Majestic and the White Sox for providing a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our kids."
"The Chicago White Sox were honored to partner with Majestic for its "Surprise and Delight" community campaign," said Christine O'Reilly, Vice President of Community Relations for the White Sox. "As an organization, we are committed to help grow the love of our great game – and there is no better way to do that than by engaging children in the experience of playing the game. We thank Majestic for being champions in the community by providing this awesome youth baseball experience."
"It was an honor and privilege to collaborate with the White Sox and Garfield Park Little League. Each of these organizations represent an unwavering commitment to community and the youth of Chicago." says Steve Eaves, Majestic Charitable Board Director.
