MAPICS the First to Deliver Manufacturing-Centric ERP Application on Linux for iSeries Platform
MAPICS ERP Solution, IBM eServer Platform and Linux
Will Provide Customers a Simple, Secure, and Cost-Efficient Method
For Extending Business Processes for Rapid ROI
ATLANTA, May 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MAPICS, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAPX), a
global provider of collaborative, extended enterprise applications for
manufacturers, today announced it is extending the value of its solutions by
offering customers the ability to run the MAPICS ERP solution for the Linux
operating system on the IBM eServer iSeries platform. The iSeries product line
is a new generation of servers featuring availability, scalability, and broad
support for open standards, and MAPICS ERP for iSeries is the first
manufacturing-centric ERP application to support Linux on this platform.
The combined technology of MAPICS ERP for iSeries and Linux for iSeries
provides improved benefits -including greater stability, reliability,
scalability, performance and cost savings. MAPICS ERP for iSeries' open, Java-
based architecture, which features fat-client Desktop, thin-client Internet
and wireless deployment, provides a flexible technology for the iSeries
platform. The offering empowers manufacturers to collaborate more effectively
over the Internet, improve customer service, deliver products faster and make
better business decisions.
"MAPICS recognizes the manufacturers' need for flexible, open, real-time
collaboration to streamline operations, and the Linux operating solution gives
them a competitive edge," said John P. Carter, Jr., senior vice president and
general manager, North American Operations, MAPICS. "The Linux operating
system, which will leverage manufacturers' existing technology investment, is
an extremely stable, open operating system that provides a heterogeneous,
integrated, reliable server operating system across a manufacturer's eServer
technology platforms."
In addition to providing users an economical way to deploy e-business
server applications, the Linux operating system is highly scaleable for a
large number of transactions and supports rapid innovations-constantly
offering new features for users. Its single operating system across server
platforms provides easy development, maintenance and skills deployment. Linux
also is increasingly being used as an application development platform for Web
and Web application servers and to drive wireless devices and Internet
applications.
"Linux, represents an exciting new technology that is rapidly gaining
market acceptance. It is a simple and economic way to implement next
generation e-business applications," said Per Larsen, vice president of
eServer solutions at IBM. "By being one of the first ERP application vendors
to support Linux deployment for its solutions, MAPICS is ahead of the curve in
helping manufacturers move toward e-business."
