Mariner Enhances Security Operations for Baltimore's Star-Spangled Spectacular
COLUMBIA, S.C., Sept. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mariner Group augmented the security efforts of Maryland's Natural Resources Police and other federal, state and local agencies for Baltimore's Star-Spangled Spectacular and Sailabration Sept. 10-16. Mariner provided CommandBridge situation awareness support to the Incident Command Center at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore. The CommandBridge displays and on-site staff helped maintain safety and security during several high-profile maritime events, including a Parade of Ships into Baltimore Harbor and the Navy's Blue Angels air show performances.
During the Parade of Ships, CommandBridge tracked more than 30 naval vessels and tall ships from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, Germany, Spain and Turkey as they sailed into the harbor. CommandBridge also helped manage federal, state and local maritime response resources, including vessels from the Maryland Natural Resource Police, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, and the Baltimore Fire Department. CommandBridge also monitored spectator and fleet security zones during the Blue Angels performances.
"The Maryland Natural Resources Police partnered with CommandBridge to create a command and control system for managing emergencies and significant planned events," said Col. George Johnson, superintendent of the Maryland NRP. "The Star-Spangled Spectacular demonstrated the effectiveness of this partnership."
This is the second time Mariner has supported the Star-Spangled Sailabration. The Maryland Natural Resources Police began integrating CommandBridge into their operations three years ago.
"Managing vessel traffic during the air shows, fireworks displays and many other special events was more easily accomplished using CommandBridge to display our radar and video data to our Coast Guard and law enforcement partners," said Tim Bowman, project chief for the Maritime Law Enforcement Information Network.
