Mark Burdett Named President and General Manager at WUSA-TV in Washington, DC
McLEAN, Va., Feb. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Gannett's (NYSE: GCI) Broadcasting Division announced Mark Burdett has been named president and general manager at WUSA-TV in Washington, DC. Burdett formerly was vice president of corporate sales and development for the Baltimore Ravens, and earlier senior director of partnerships and development for the NFL team.
Burdett succeeds Allan Horlick, president and general manager of WUSA-TV, who announced his retirement in November and leaves the station after a distinguished and award-winning career in DC broadcasting.
Prior to joining the Baltimore Ravens in 2000, Burdett served as senior vice president for the Washington Redskins. In addition to Burdett's work with the two NFL teams, he also has extensive local and national media experience. Prior to joining the Washington Redskins, he served as vice president and station manager, and director of sales and marketing, at WJLA-TV, in Washington, DC, from 1996-1999; and as vice president of station relations for ABC Television Network from 1995-1996. Earlier experience includes serving as local sales manager at WJLA; general sales manager at KTXA-TV in Houston; national sales manager and local sales manager at WDCA-TV in Washington, DC; and as an account executive for WXTR Radio in Washington, DC.
"Mark brings proven leadership and strong management skills to WUSA-TV," said Dave Lougee, president of Gannett Broadcasting. "Under his marketing and sales leadership, the Baltimore Ravens are one of the top producing NFL teams, despite Baltimore being a medium size market. His innovative thinking, proven team-building and community expertise make him an ideal fit for WUSA. He brings back to broadcasting a fresh perspective on serving our viewers and the community at large.
"At the same time, we wish Allan well. He leaves behind a legacy of great leadership at WUSA and earlier at WRC-TV."
"I'm thrilled to join WUSA and Gannett Broadcasting, which has a reputation for excellence, innovation and community service," said Burdett. "Allan built an amazing team and I look forward to being a part of efforts going forward as the division seeks to drive growth in the new media environment."
Burdett graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was a part of the school's ACC championship lacrosse teams.
