UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark Kristol has been appointed senior vice president, Universal Pictures, it was announced today by Chris McGurk, president and chief operating officer. In his new position, Mr. Kristol will be responsible for pursuing new strategic growth initiatives, analyzing new business development opportunities and developing initiatives to help further focus the group's resources to support Universal's film releases. He will begin in his new position on July 27. In making the announcement, Mr. McGurk said, "Mark has proven himself to be a strong and innovative executive, and I'm delighted that he will be utilizing these skills to enhance the overall business development effort for Universal Pictures. Mr. Kristol joined Universal Pictures Marketing in December 1994 as senior vice president, media & research, where he oversaw all aspects of media and research for the company's motion picture releases. He came to Universal from Sony Pictures Entertainment, where he served as senior vice president, media at TriStar Pictures, having first joined TriStar at its inception in 1984 and relocating to Los Angeles in 1989.
