Martinair Extends Pratt & Whitney EcoPower(R) Engine Wash Agreement
EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Martinair has extended its agreement with Pratt & Whitney to continue EcoPower engine wash service. Under the agreement, Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners will provide engine wash services for Martinair's fleet of PW4000 engines. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.
"Extending our agreement with Pratt & Whitney for EcoPower engine wash is one of many steps Martinair is taking to reduce its carbon footprint," said Peter van der Horst, vice president of Maintenance and Engineering, Martinair. "To date, we have reduced our CO2( )emissions as a direct benefit of EcoPower engine washes."
"Pratt & Whitney is very pleased to continue its strong relationship with Martinair," said Anupam Bhargava, general manager, Pratt & Whitney Line Maintenance Services. "EcoPower engine wash is an investment that makes sense for operators like Martinair who are looking for a financial and environmental return."
Martinair, based in Amsterdam, operates passenger and cargo services to over 50 destinations around the world.
Pratt & Whitney's patented EcoPower engine wash system reduces fuel burn by as much as 1.2 percent, eliminating approximately three pounds of carbon dioxide emissions for every pound of fuel saved, while decreasing engine gas temperature and increasing the amount of time an engine can stay on wing. The EcoPower engine wash system, offered through the Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners network, uses a closed-loop system with pure, atomized water to wash aircraft engines, avoiding potential contaminant runoff. The system is more effective and much faster than traditional engine washing processes.
Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and commercial building industries.
