Mayor Proclaims Neil Swissman Day for ASA's New President

    SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Wednesday is officially Neil
 Swissman Day in Las Vegas as proclaimed by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman to
 honor the long-time Las Vegas anesthesiologist.
     On that day, Dr. Swissman will be sworn in as the 65th President of the
 American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) during the organization's annual
 meeting in San Francisco, California.  ASA is the largest organization of
 anesthesiologists in the world with more than 36,000 members.
     Dr. Swissman has been in private practice for many years in Las Vegas.  He
 is also associate professor of anesthesiology, University of Nevada-Reno
 College Medical School, Reno, Nevada.  He received his medical degree from
 Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, and completed his residency at
 Milwaukee County General Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He is a diplomate of
 the American Board of Anesthesiology.
     Dr. Swissman was president of the Clark County (Nevada) Medical Society in
 1976 and was president of the Nevada State Medical Association in 1978-79.  He
 is a member of the American Medical Association and the International
 Anesthesia Research Society.
     Dr. Swissman and his wife, Debbie, reside in Las Vegas, Nevada.
     Founded in 1905, the American Society of Anesthesiologists is a scientific
 and educational association of anesthesiologists that was organized to advance
 the practice of anesthesiology and to improve the quality of care of the
 anesthetized patient.
