Maytag and UAW Officials Reach Tentative Agreement on a New Labor Contract

    NEWTON, Iowa, July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Maytag (NYSE:   MYG) and
 United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America
 (UAW) Local 997 jointly announced that they have reached a tentative agreement
 on a new four-year labor contract covering production and maintenance
 employees at Maytag's manufacturing facilities in Newton, Iowa.

     This new agreement is subject to a ratification vote by union membership,
 which will be scheduled by UAW Local 997.  No details of the tentative
