SAN ANTONIO, March 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- In order to make space for the all-new 2013 CX-5, Mazda will discontinue its CX-7 after the 2012 model year. The crossover will no longer be available in the U.S., but other international markets will still carry the CX-7. Ingram Park Mazda , a premier Mazda dealership in San Antonio, TX, looks forward to fresh inventory and new technology.

Originally reported by Car and Driver, the news of the vehicle swap was not much of a surprise. A decrease in sales made the CX-7 a likely candidate for retirement. The CX-5 also features several new improvements that will make the exchange well worth it.

The all-new CX-5 will be outfitted with the 155-horsepower, 2.0-liter Skyactiv engine. The vehicle is reportedly over 200 pounds lighter than the CX-7 and more efficient by offering 26 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, compared to the CX-7's 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

The crossover is expected to have a smaller overall body size; however, the CX-5 offers more interior and cargo space than the CX-7. With a wheelbase of 106.3 inches, length of 178.7, and a width of 72.4 inches, the CX-5 is 2 inches shorter in height, 5.6 inches shorter in length and 1.3 inches slimmer than the CX-7.  Space is not compromised in the CX-5, however. The crossover offers 103.8 cubic feet of space compared to the CX-7's 101.7.

More information and specifications will be made available closer to the CX-5's release date. The vehicle will be major competition for other redesigned crossovers in its class.
