McGregor Foundation Disburses More Than $365,000 to 17 Local Agencies
Distributions Top $7.4 million Since 2002
CLEVELAND, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The McGregor Foundation, in its semiannual round of grants, has distributed $365,050 to 17 local programs and institutions that reflect the Foundation's grantmaking priorities: providing affordable senior housing with services, educating the workforce serving the aging, and improving the quality of life of vulnerable seniors.
The latest grants bring the total to more than $7.4 million distributed since the Foundation was created in 2002.
"In these difficult economic times, low-income seniors need help in so many ways," says R. Robertson Hilton, president and chief executive officer of The McGregor Foundation. "While we can not fund all the requests, we try to support programs that seek to improve the lives of seniors in need."
The grants include $51,000 to University Hospitals of Cleveland to train the skilled-nursing staff to reduce patient readmissions, $40,000 to Eliza Bryant Village in Cleveland's Hough neighborhood for programming at its Amasa B. Ford Lodge independent housing facility, and $32,400 to Senior Outreach Services for capacity building in Cleveland's Fairfax neighborhood.
McGregor also awarded $10,000 to the Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation for its Grandparent Housing Project and supplemented the grant with a $60,000 project-related loan.
Consistent with a continuing commitment to the community where The A.M. McGregor Home is located, the Foundation also gave $50,000 to the City of East Cleveland to purchase an ambulance.

The McGregor Foundation is part of the McGregor Group, which also operates The A.M. McGregor Home -- 56 affordable independent and assisted living units and 17 market-priced apartments -- on a 32-acre campus in East Cleveland.
In addition, the McGregor Group operates the adjacent Gardens, a private-room nursing home, whose 149 residents come primarily from Cleveland's inner-city and inner-ring suburbs.
Earlier this year, the McGregor Group purchased and reopened Overlook House, a 25-bed nursing facility atop Cedar Hill near University Circle.
The Group traces its roots to 1877 with early support from Standard Oil Company founders.
